This is my first game review of the entire blog, it was about Destroyer Command, my first computer game that I had brought.
Basically, my rating system was not like the conventional system of rating that are frequent on review sites, it was as follows;
- Graphics(Basic like dotting and interface graphics)-10%
- LAN-5%
- Sound-5%
- Modeling and realistic-50%
- Historical Information-15%
- Command and Control-5%
- Price-2%
- Language use-3%
- Hangs and etc...-2%
- Overall appearance-3%
I will start by the first topic and so on,blah blah blah...............
GRAPHICS(10%)
Basically, the graphics was just on the mark, enough to stun an amateur but some professional people may not like it. It contained quite a lot of dotting.
Verdict: In this first aspect, i shall be lenient a bit lah, so 7/10.
LAN(5%)
It supports multi-player with silent hunter but there are not much player on line and it was very hard to get connected.
Verdict: Poor LAN interface and not popular. 1/5
SOUND(5%)
The sound was quite good, i felt like i am really in a USS ship, but the entire dialog was only a few lines and not quite verbose.
Verdict: Still okay lah...4/5
MODELING AND REALISTIC(50%)
The models look quite professional but the damage effects was quite simple, every ships had the same form of damage( fire in the bridges and fire in all rounds)before sinking and all damages are the same, so therefore not convincing. All fire below Battleship was like a orange circles and battleship fire is like a inverted "U" shape therefore making it not quite accurate. A cruiser round may penetrate the deck amour and it would not necessary been seen....and etc... At last, the CA New Orleans was model such as its hull was very curved and this WAS NOT THE CASE!
Verdict: Considering the effects and New Orleans CA error, therefore 35/50
HISTORICAL INFORMATION(15%)
A very big failure is that there is not a single crew member to be seen and certain historical missions are distorted( For example, during the Casablanca mission, the gunnery support force only comprises a single battleship instead of the actual historically correct amount. This causes the mission to be hard to complete due to the strong naval guns(8 15" and 9 6") on the battleship Jean Bart and coastal batteries). Secondly, the naval forces available in the war are not correctly shown. Examples of this are nonexistent United Kingdom battleships
HMS Vanguard (23) and
HMS King George V (41), and the light carriers of the United States are not complete.
Verdict: Considering that, my score was very low: 4/15
COMMAND AND CONTROL(5%)
All are good in this section, no need for verdict, full marks 5/5 as you can control the squardon from the minutest detail such as ENGINES from one ship!!!
PRICE(2%)
$49.95 as at 2001 and it was still economical
Verdict: Still cheap, 1/2
LANGUAGE USE(3%)
Very good...not any "F" words.
Verdict: 2/3
HANGS AND ETC...(2%)
It hangs frequently and upon engaging planes, it had a time lag of 2 sec on slow computers.
Verdict: Not good, 0/2
OVERALL APPEARANCE(3%)
It was still marginal
Verdict:2/3
CONCLUSION Total score:61/100
Therefore, buy it if you are only looking for a marginal game.
